Problem

Our client came to us to validate the idea that parents are looking for a tool to help them ease their worries and gain peace of mind by acting proactively and keeping all of their children’s information in a single place.
Approach

To validate the initial proposal of our client's idea, we developed a research phase that included:
- A survey via Survey Monkey (using their Audience feature) to understand parents’ behaviors and main concerns regarding child safety, as well as a first validation for a list of features, to find out which ones they would find more valuable.
- Interviews with potential users (parents of children from 0 to 17).
- Interview with law enforcement, who educated us on the procedures of a missing child report and Amber Alerts.
Solution

After gathering input from potential users and expert interviews, I took the role of a Product Manager and started writing down the main requirements for an MVP on a Product Requirements Document. Our roadmap was pretty clear and we had our final feature set that included:
Key features
- A Child ID Card functionality, to keep all the information and photos of the family members up to date.
- A Safety Section, with tools to learn more about what to do if your child is missing.
- A Missing Persons Report questionnaire, a seamless flow to file a missing child report and forward to the local law enforcement.
- A Missing Child Poster, to be downloadable as an image to quickly share through social media.
- A Handoff Functionality, to easily transfer temporary custody of a child to a caregiver (i.e. babysitter, teacher on a field trip, among others).
- A Manage Account section, to be able to update information and password, add or remove friends, and reach out to Support.
Being proactive could save lives
With thousands of children being abducted every year in the US, there is a clear problem for parents to be more aware of their children's safety. One thing you can proactively do as a parent is to keep all the information of your child with updated photos at hand so that in case of an emergency, you can provide all of this incredibly valuable information to law enforcement.
